Authorities have had little to say about the official cause of death and injury, but Yonhap news agency reports that people are suffering from cardiac arrest and shortness of breath.

The President of South Korea has called on officials to quickly identify the victims for the sake of the families involved, as many of those discovered are still missing.

Two foreigners died in the Halloween tragedy in Itaewon and more than a dozen others – including a US citizen – were among the injured, officials said.

Yongsan Fire Police Chief Choi Seong-bum said two “foreign nationals” were killed but did not say where they came from. He added that 15 other foreign nationals were injured.

According to the US Department of State, at least one of the injured is a US citizen.
