CHELSEA WHERE HELD BY A 2-2 DRAW IN THEIR SECOND GAME OF THE SEASON AT STAMFORD BRIDGE
Parity lasted just nine minutes, as Tottenham’s woeful Stamford Bridge record looked set to continue. Spurs have won away at Chelsea just once in the Premier League era, and Reece James’ strike put the Blues back in front again. But Kane flicked a header into the far corner deep into stoppage-time, with the help of a slight deflection from James, and more angry scenes followed on the touchline at full-time as both managers were sent-off.
Tuchel appeared to refuse to let go of Conte’s hand during the post-match handshakes after the Italian had resolutely avoided eye contact, leading the pair to square up angrily on the pitch while staff attempted to separate them.
Harry Kane headed an equaliser with almost the final touch of the match as Tottenham earned a 2-2 draw in an ill-tempered London derby against Chelsea
Thomas Tuchel’s side were dominant for much of the match and took a first-half lead through a superb volley from Kalidou Koulibaly, on his home debut. The Blues rarely looked troubled but Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg got Spurs level with 20 minutes remaining, sparking a clash between the two benches.
For Tottenham, a familiar performance at Stamford Bridge but, this time, a different result.
Until the 96th-minute, Spurs were heading for another dispiriting defeat at the home of their rivals, only for Harry Kane to rescue a 2-2 draw deep into stoppage-time before a furious bust-up between Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte after the final whistle.
Both head coaches were shown a red card, having been booked in the aftermath of Spurs’ first equaliser through Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and will now serve a touchline ban.
Thomas Tuchel hopes referee Anthony Taylor doesn’t referee Chelsea matches in future and was furious after a feeling refereeing decisions cost his side a win at home to Tottenham.
“Maybe it would be better, maybe it would be better [if he didn’t referee Chelsea games],” Tuchel said.
When told that some Chelsea fans feel Taylor has made a number of mistakes when officiating Chelsea matches, Tuchel suggested that his players have a similar opinion.
He said: “I don’t think just some of the fans think that. I can assure you the whole dressing room of us, every single person, thinks that. I can’t understand how the first goal is not offside and I can’t understand when a player is pulled by their hair, the other player stays on the pitch.”
