FIRE RAZE DOWN BAIDIA POLICE DIVISION IN LAGOS STATE

A fire reportedly destroyed movable and immovable properties worth millions of Naira yesterday at the Badia Division Police Headquarters in Lagos State.

Our Correspondent  noted that a late night hell that raged around 8pm on Sunday and raged for about two hours devastated the office.

Documents, air conditioners, parked motorcycles, electric fans, personal belongings of division officers.

We also learned that the fire was the result of a suspected power surge. This was noticed by inmates in the cell who set off an alarm that caught the attention of officers on duty, including DPO CSP Ayoola Olawale.

The fire reportedly started on the roof of the building’s backyard and was somewhat difficult for firefighters to quickly extinguish.

Locals and passers-by reportedly stormed the station to help police and men put out the fire, but to no avail. Men from the Lagos State Fire and Security Service recently arrived and are said to have helped prevent the fire from spreading outside the base’s premises.

Our correspondent established with certainty that the building belonged to the former People’s Bank and was taken over by police when the original building a few yards away sank about ten years ago.

However, the submerged building was rebuilt with the assistance of the Banking Commission awaiting commissioning.

Efforts by the police to comment on the incident by his PR officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin proved over the top as he did not answer the phone.
