IN AN EFFORT TO DIVIDE ASUU, THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT REGISTERS TWO NEW UNIVERSITY UNIONS

The Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA) and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics are two new university unions that the federal government has officially established (NAMDA).

With the registration of the two unions, there are now three academic unions in Nigerian universities: the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), CONUA, and NAMDA.

According to the government, the two unions now have access to all of the privileges and rights accorded to unions as a result of being registered, and the government and university authorities will offer them access to these rights.

At a meeting with the two unions’ heads on Tuesday in Abuja, Minister of Labor and Employment Senator Chris Ngige announced the consent had been given.
