Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem, a lawyer with offices in Lagos, was shot and killed by a police officer in the Lagos neighbourhood of Ajah.

Omobolanle, a member of the Nigeria Bar Association’s Lagos chapter, was assassinated on Sunday while she was returning from a Christmas service.

It was learned that the deceased lawyer was inside a vehicle with her spouse when the deadly gun struck her. They had just arrived at the Ajah under bridge.

The incident was reported to the Ajiwe Police Station, a family member who wished to remain unnamed stated, adding that the family lacked confidence in the administration of justice because the trigger-happy cop is a local.

He said, “The police are from Ajiwe station. Her husband drove, attorney Omobolanle sat in the front with her husband. The officer asked them to park and they needed the car in front to move so they could park properly, but the officer shot him straight in the chest. Witnessing the incident, the police present at the scene ran away.

“Shortly later, police officers arrived and moved his body to Yaba morgue without the consent of his family. “However, her family has been able to locate the place where she moved the body.”

But the NBA has said it will ensure justice is served and will not allow the case to remain hidden.

NBA National Publicity Secretary Akorede Lawal, who called the incident regrettable, added that association president Yakubu Maikyau is monitoring the situation. He tweeted: “We are aware of this unfortunate incident. This is another crime against a lawyer. Unfortunately, our member has left. NBA President @YCMaikyauSAN is right on this point and we will make sure that justice is done with due diligence. was detained. He tweeted: “The ASP opened fire and two other people with him have been taken into custody. They should be referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. “The Lagos State Police Command extends its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Attorney Bolanle Raheem.

“The Lagos State Command Police Commissioner, CP Abiodun Alabi, has been in contact with the family and the Nigeria Bar Association since yesterday and has given firm assurances that justice will prevail in the end.”
